Survival Manuals - Are they Practical and do you have Time to read them at crisis time?

I am a strong advocate of being prepared for a crisis. Lets assume we have another Katrina disaster and the Government is 5 days late. Then if you're one of the few who think one is likely, the problem is that its hard to get ready for one when you don't know what's coming. I am talking about economic failures or a severe depression, natural disasters we haven't seen yet, rising sea levels, food scarcity, riots, and pandemics. Yes, most if any probably won't happen, but how hard is it to prepare for one? Most people spend thousands on "insurance" whether its directly out of your pocket or not. But very little, if any, time preparing for the worst. So, maybe you own a survival book or boy scout manual. ;-0 But who wants to read survival and crisis manuals in their spare time? Sigh. I can think of ton of things I rather read at night, and I think a small disaster is looming over us. So if I have trouble reading them, I would hate to think what the average guy does with them. So, I can see piles of manuals collecting dust and ebooks collecting bytes. :0 But as the impending is near, I find myself brushing up on all I have learned. I have found some of the best sources, and forecasting sites, but many of the ones I don't read are the survivalist guys who are just x-military guys selling Military guidebooks. Granted they are some of the best of the best, but we need to consider practicality during a crisis. I mean without military resources and training, will we understand the jargon and have the military grade "P39xyz" survival tool at hand? I doubt it. That's not the worst problem, imagine buying the 200 Military Ebooks that cover from "Vietnam Mines & Boobytraps" to "Counter Intelligence Investigations 1998". Gee, those out to help. :0 LOL. You can imagine these are pretty much useless in an urban disaster scenario, which is where 70% of us reside. Even if you found one that was useful like "Building A Safe Room Inside Your Home", when that starving hoodlum stops by or crazy "terrorist", do you think you will have time to put it into action? Maybe the hoodlum has a knife, and it will take him a few hours to pry his way into the house. I am sure you will be safe. With this in mind, I am seriously thinking about creating a streamlined Emergency Response ebook or web-based Safety & Crisis Manual. One that outlines what you need, in a fast and easy manner. There are some exciting web technologies I can use to make it updatable from us, self-editable for note taking, and very robust. If something like that interests you please subscribe to the right or leave a comment! Until then, do some reading and buy the top 100 things you need, because an ounce of prevention is worth 1000 pounds of cure in times of disaster. In the end, after tons of research, I think the poison pill well end up being "A Slow" emergency, leading up to some catastrophic failure. Coming to town near you sometime in 2010. Landmark Case - Your First Amendment RIght is at STAKE

Guys, our freedom is at stake. Our very thread of existence regarding what we say is at stake. Have exrpessed you anger or disatisfaction you ever said, "that guy needs to die or be killed?" Of course you have, well what if you were put in jail for saying it?? YOU WOULD BE LIVID. So, it happened to Hal Turner, and it is an atroscity. I may not agree with everything he said, but the governement is scared, and they over overreaching their powers. Its that simple. There was not an "Imminent" danger which protects people in the vicinity. He put up the judges address for extra effect, now he's in jail. We all no how to google and find someone at work, if they let this fall under "imminent" its all over folks. Your wire tapped phone calls will get you in jail one day. PLEASE step up and Donate below for everyone in the country who has a voice, this really matters and may go to the supreme court. Your Freedom of Speech and your children's depend on it. Are all Enviromental Causes GOOD?

Every few years a Noble Cause or some sort of Bandwagon appears that seems as though it has real traction to make a change for the better. One of those "Bandwagons" is the Environmental or Green Movement. Now don't get me wrong, I am all for Saving the environment. Yes we all need to conserve, recycle and not be so wasteful. But what happens, when someone uses that platform for their own selfish needs? Does it happen?? WE would be naive to think otherwise. If I were to tell you that all PLANETS in the solar system have been slowly heating up in the past several years, would that change your outlook on Earth? IT SHOULD! If there are not humans on other planets, then how else can you explain it?? Solar system changes, primarily sun and its relationship to the earth. So with that said, maybe there is a guy like Al Gore who lost barely in a previous election, would want to make a major comeback somehow? The fact of the mater is that as temperature goes up, C02 levels rise. Not the other way around. C02 is create in mass amounts from sea organisms, I mean massive amounts. Just go to Youtube and search for "Global Warming Hoax", its all over the news. Al Gore dares to use a green moral platform in a unethical way. If you knew how many research jobs this movement created to line pockets and support this Hoax. Yes of course some are needed, but the lie created jobs that are wasteful.. It makes me sick. Of course we need to reduce C02, but twisted lies and scare tactics are not the way to do it. Check out the Pen and Teller Video below, its a perfect example of why you need to question different proposals or platforms based on a herd type movement. This is a great example where all people need to do is hear a buzzword, and they are on board. No questions asked. This is why herding mentality can hurt us all. This is why you must have free thought and honestly examine things where it always seems like the "CROWD is on Board". Its why financial and stock bubbles get created. SO much to be said, but lets save it for another blog entry! :) How funny ehg?? I love it. Ban water, yeah lets do it! So how many other "H20's" are out there that shouldn't be banned!?? Or for that matter how many ideas or substances shouldn't even be in the environmental movement. Food for thought. Then again, the food may be laced with pesticide, so watch out! The Capitalistic Trap

Capitalism is an amazing thing. How many times have we said to ourselves, "If I only had a ten thousand dollars, things would be much better. Well, in the past 20 years while the market has trended up tremendously, many of us have reached that goal. Of course initially its a goal, but in time unfortunately it becomes a milestone. Think about it, when we reach that mark, we say to ourselves, "Wow, if this is what $10K feels like, imagine what $20K will fill like!! Bam!" Unconsciously we think that our life happiness might double, so we go for it. And in time, we get to the same milestone, and ad infinitum. A viscous cycle that seems great, but more often than not it just leads to more hollowness. Don't get me wrong, some people learn that enough is enough, and live a happy life with a more modest desire for business successes. Its hard, I struggle with it, we all do. Everyone wants to retire in 1 year or less. I think Charles Payne said it best from Minyanville,

Don't get me wrong: Capitalism is in the DNA of human beings. We love to compete. We love to help each other and if we�can make a buck in the process all the better. We love to build, starting from those sand castles at the beach when we are only toddlers to families, businesses and skyscrapers. The thing that happens is, we become victims of our own success. Even when people are doing great financially and are making more money than they have in the past, they tend to feel bad about themselves if someone else is doing much better. That's envy at work. I hope it doesn't rip apart the fabric of our country, because there are a lot of folks hoping that happens.

Capitalism is a double edge sword, unfortunately we don't realize it until we lose what we so dearly worked for. A classic example of how history repeats itself, and the previous generation is gone or to senile to remember or remind us of such important lessons. :0 Until then, try to stay in balance with all your desires, albeit financial or any other, its the key to good health and longevity.

I finally made it back to good ol' Georgia, from a great month in the Outer banks, kitesurfing and working on an alternative energy project! It went well, and all is well. I hope all is well with all of you in these crazy times!!! On more important matters, as I called the financial meltdown. Here is what I think is next on tap.. Slowly we are sliding into a loss of liberties, and this videos sheds a great new light on it. Here is the history lesson from Keith Olbermann, so you don't think this has never happened. If things get worse its time to try and become more independent. My prediction is we really will have to rise up and fight together. But unfortunately, we will have to lose many liberties, BMW's, boats and summer homes before we make a move. Slowly this is happening, the slow erosion is why you don't notice it much. Most people don't take action until a loved one is affected. We can see it happening, don't wait until you have no resources to get the things you need to survive. I welcome a brave new world. Sean

Financial Calamities Abound - Will it effect you?

Wow, as things erode in the financial world, I am absolutely amazed at the speed, ferocity, and broadness of the financial calamities. If the original founders of Lehman and Bear Sterns would have known what they know today, they may have never started it. To think that 50+ years of sound money could all be erased in about 6 months? Are the so called owners so inept that they don't know how to protect a small stock price and mortgage change? Holy cow, their is only one word for that lack of foresight, its called over leveraging. To much risk, with YOUR Money IN THEIR derivative investments, and when things go bad they go bad. Dam, bankrupt in just a few months. Those poor shareholders and employees of Lehman. If you think were out of the woods, you are nuts. Just because you have never lived "to tell and experience" doesn't mean it won't happen. Its not in our logic, so most people deny it. Get ready for major financial calamities, bank runs, increased crime, potential bank holidays, and defunct 401's and pension plans. Add to that, a 70 Billion injection today from the FED, the most since 9/11, and the writing is on the wall. The bottom line is you must prepare, raise cash, get out of the market, and buy some emergency food. I am working on some Organic MREs, or Healthy dehydrated food, but in the meantime go to John Lipscumb great citizens site survivalistseeds.com or go the source by googling "viable seeds" or "heirloom seeds" are the key words so you don't get genetically modified seeds. Solar and Wind Home Power

Wow, what a market it is in terms of solar and wind power! I always have been watching this market, but it amazes me to see how much its grown in the past couple of years and the technological advances. While there haven't been a ton of advances that have filtered down to the consumer, one day the technologies will be leveraged to our benefit. A new type of Lithium battery, that is like 5 to 10x faster to charge and also safer then standard Lithium batteries. Check it out, MIT is doing research on Lithium Nickel Manganese Oxide battery . I did a ton of searching, and no luck finding RECHARGABLE ones, just one time use ones. However, while searching I found a great diagram to help people understand the configurations and schematics of converting power and solar for home storage and AC power uses. ONce you install the solar panels and windmills, looks like there is another $2 to $3K in batteries, inverters, and charge controllers and grid-tie in inverters. However, for the small time alternative energy enthusiast check this 250W Grid Tied Inverter, which is a wall-plug in system. Could be a sweet deal, but get a bigger one, this one still will take years to pay for itself, don't fall for their, "watch the meter spin backwards" !!! YEAH Right if your whole house consists of a laptop, microwave and a clock radio!!! Geez. Before you go buying a bunch of equipment do a lot of reading. This is a great tutorial on Lead Acid batteries. They are cheapest per watt-hour. One guy to watch is the author of Urban Survival, one of his articles at Peoplenomics talks about how to set up a home back-up power to grid tie in alternative energy system. Good luck. I learned a lot today, cant' wait to build a system. Need a lot to be totally self sufficient, but you have to start somewhere. Mega Watt it! Write when you got a system going!

Welcome to TheHealthySurvivor Blog!!!. Our mission is to inform you about staying healthy and surviving in these unprecedented times of economic instability, infiltrating diseases, toxic food chemicals, and politically unstable times. Don't worry this won't be a negative type blog, we are very positive people, but we are realistic on what environment we live around us. If we are to change, we need to inform first. You can't change, without a roadmap of choices. Let us be the roadmap. While many of you think that things are quite rosy, if you really look under the hood, they are not. How many times have we heard about x,y, and z being exposed or sued, because of things they had been doing maliciously for years? Well, that's just the stuff you hear about, think about all the stuff that has yet to come to light, or really has come to light, but just hasn't reached main stream media. Lets face it, there are thousands of powers to be that know that informing you will cost them money. I know, I know, people are usually honest people. Well guess what, your right. But, for example lets say you live in the 50's and all houses were made of bricks. What if you owned a brick laying company and you found out it was cheaper to make houses with wood. Would you tell everyone about it if it basically would kill your income and ruin your way of life because your factory can't switch to manufacturing wood? Of course you wouldn't. Don't you think this reasoning applies to thousands of companies? Along those lines, if Edison's original light bulb still burns today, yet light bulbs break every day, doesn't that tell you something? Things are made to break. Bottom line its all about the money.
