Minerals - Magnesium

Magnesium is needed for the body to metabolize calcium, Vitamin C, Sodium, Potassium, and Phosphorus. Magnesium is known as an anti-stress mineral because it has a calming effect when it's taken.

Vitamin B6 helps the body use magnesium, and this mineral is also used to create energy in the body too.

Magnesium has many positive effects on the body too. It helps the nerves function well and helps fight depression. It also helps the muscles function properly, plus it lowers the blood pressure, helps prevent heart attacks, and helps the cardiovascular system in general too.

Magnesium is another mineral which is needed to create strong bones and teeth, as well as soft tissues. This mineral helps spark energy releases within the body, it helps turn blood sugar into energy for the body to use, and it helps the body metabolize minerals too.

When someone is not getting enough magnesium in their diet, they may experience extreme nervousness. Other signs of deficiency can include mental confusion and disorientation, depression, and quick anger outbursts.

Muscle tremors are another sign of not having enough Magnesium, as is a rapid pulse or irregular heartbeat. Deficiency can also cause blood clots to occur in the heart or brain, coronary heart disease development, and atherosclerosis.

Other signs include lethargy or lack of energy, nausea, and malnutrition.

Natural food sources of magnesium include soybeans; fresh green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and asparagus; apples; almonds and other nuts; honey; peaches; lemons; grapefruit; and yellow corn.

Many of the herbal supplements we've mentioned in the past as being excellent sources of all around daily vitamin and mineral sources are also those same ones which are natural sources of magnesium. These include: Alfalfa, Kelp, and Parsley.

Other herbal sources high in magnesium include: Aloe vera, Cayenne, Camomile, Dandelion, Garlic, Ginger, Kelp, Peppermint, Red Clover, and Rosemary.
